History and context

The Liédena flask has a lenticular circular body, narrow neck and two handles. It was moulded in Hispanic terra sigillata and decorated on both faces with geometric and vegetal bands organised around the centre.

The Hermet 13 form allowed liquid transport, but the entry does not record what it contained on a specific occasion. The red sheen comes from the slip and controlled firing; it does not mean that all sigillata always bore a legible stamp.

Evidence and interpretation

Object, material, technique, form, dimensions, museum provenance and inventory are documented. Content, owner, individual workshop and exact route of use are not preserved.

A SHARED TOPIC, DIFFERENT MOMENTS

Objects connected through time

Follow a topic across the collections. A shared tag is a way to compare objects, not proof that one culture influenced another.

The order uses the midpoint of each approximate date range; ranges can overlap. Spacing does not represent elapsed time. Swipe, scroll or use the arrows. With the sequence focused, use ← / →, Home or End.

THE CURRENT OBJECT

Its date is not sufficiently established to place it on the timeline. We keep it here, separate from the dated objects.

The two faces do not repeat the same decoration

The Navarre Museum catalogue describes two different programmes: one face distributes geometric and vegetal motifs in concentric bands; the other repeats a human figure in spaces separated by wavy lines. This difference invites mentally rotating the piece, not treating it as a frontal image. The decorated form has parallels in Gallic productions from La Graufesenque and was adopted by Hispanic workshops. Comparing moulds and stratigraphies allows investigation of this technical circulation without assuming that the Liédena flask was necessarily made in the same place as its antecedents.
