The distribution of livestock also has a chronology

Bovine skull deposits did not increase continuously as the tumuli grew. The archaeozoological study of the eastern necropolis indicates that they became frequent during Middle Kerma, when hundreds could gather before the largest tombs, and decreased in number during Classic Kerma. Erosion and later burials also erased surface assemblages. Therefore, comparing funerals requires attending to the phase and preservation: counting visible remains without these conditions would produce a misleading measure of each tomb's prestige.
