A local drink in a transformed vessel

The Hochdorf cauldron allows tracing a material adaptation of the banquet. It arrived from Magna Graecia and received later modifications: three handles and a third lion made locally were added to the vessel. The other two lions are probably attributed to workshops of Greek southern Italy. Inside, remains related to mead and honey pollen were preserved. The imported vessel thus participated in a regional drinking practice and was altered by other craftsmen; the prestige of its origin did not prevent intervention upon it.
