Written Gaulish to act upon a conflict
The lead plaque from Larzac, found in 1983 within a burial at La Vayssière, preserves some sixty lines of Gaulish in Latin cursive. It was written on both sides, corrected in some places, folded and split before deposition. The Millau museum interprets it as a counter-charm directed against a group of women in the context of a judicial conflict. Here the writing had ritual efficacy for those who produced it: the text and the gestures performed upon the metal formed part of the same act.
