A wall made of small units

Uruk terracotta cones combine three documented colors: red, black and white. ICOM records specimens of about eight to ten centimeters in length, whose visible circular face is much smaller than the body inserted into the wall. The ornamental effect came from accumulating numerous pieces, arranged by color. Looking at a single unit and then at the whole allows us to understand the relationship between repetitive manufacturing and monumental design, a very different way of working from painting a scene on a smooth surface.
