History and context

This recreation imagines an armed offerer with arms open. It does not exactly reproduce parallel 0224, which lacks a helmet and keeps arms alongside the body.

Ex-votos are not photographic portraits. They select recognisable attributes —tunic, belt, helmet, posture— and compress them into a few centimetres. Their repetition allows studying social categories, but each deposit may have responded to a unique personal story.

Evidence and interpretation

Documented fact: parallel 0224 exists. Interpretation and caution: its clothing and provenance do not certify this armed recreation nor a precise find at Altos del Sotillo.

A reconstructed gesture does not replace the original's record

The ex-voto 0224 of the Juan Cabré Museum, used as a comparative reference, measures only 54.3 millimetres. Its catalogue describes a triangular head, arms pressed to the body and open palms; it does not document a helmet. Furthermore, it alternatively proposes Collado de los Jardines or La Lobera as possible provenance, not a precise excavation at Altos del Sotillo. This distinction matters: the recreated figure and its clothing are a visual proposal. The small original allows studying how a few incisions and file work sufficed to individualise eyes, mouth and extremities.
