A ship among drawings of ships

A vaulted construction from Abydos, investigated by Josef Wegner's team, contained planks attributed to a burial vessel of Senusret III, around 1850 BCE. Its walls preserved some 120 drawings of ships, with hulls, masts, rowers and oars represented with different degrees of detail; around 150 jugs also appeared. The find belongs to the Middle Kingdom, long after the first dynastic tombs. The presence of the ship reinforces the proposal that the king was buried at Abydos, although he had prepared another funerary complex in the north. Architecture and graffiti provide arguments, not automatic certainty.
