History and context
In a circular chamber, a couple occupies the center of a banquet as companions, musicians and horses arrive. The painting turns a farewell into a social scene: the rank of the deceased is expressed through those around him, gifts and ceremony. The museum interprets the couple as a heroized ruler and his wife; their names are not known.
The tomb allows you to look at more than just jewelry. It shows how an elite wanted to be remembered and how Hellenistic painting entered the funerary language of Thrace. The proximity of Seutopolis provides regional context, but does not automatically identify the occupant with Seutes III.
Evidence and interpretation
The owner is not identified. The banquet and its reading as heroization are interpretations of the museum. The original monument and the visiting replica are distinguished on the file.

A space that organizes the look
The route goes from a corridor to a rectangular antechamber and a round chamber. The warriors in the antechamber, the banquet and the chariot race in the upper frieze place the deceased among different images of prestige. The painters combined wet-plaster fresco and tempera to create a decoration that enveloped those who entered.
