An object can change attribution

A silver rhyton from the Metropolitan, initially attributed to Iran, is today classified as Thracian by its resemblance to two vessels found in northern Bulgaria; the museum even proposes a common workshop. Its goat forepart was hammered from a sheet, adding legs, horns and ears, while the bowl was made separately. The comparison shows how a prestigious Achaemenid-origin format could acquire regional production. Sharing silhouette and function does not demonstrate that all examples came from an Iranian imperial workshop.
