A house was reorganised from its floors

The proposed latrines at Harappa and Mohenjo-daro contain small jars, sunken receptacles and surfaces that were renewed. Kenoyer observes that several were distinguished from bathing areas. This domestic scale completes the street plan: urban functioning depended on how each dwelling conducted, absorbed and withdrew liquids. Successive floor layers allow repeated actions to be followed that a monumental elevation does not show. Maintenance thus left its own stratigraphy within reduced spaces, linked to the daily use of houses.
