History and context
A small bronze figure raises or opens its arms. It was cast to leave the everyday world and remain in a sanctuary of Castellar, where thousands of objects established a material relationship between visitors, community and sacred powers.
The metal condenses an anonymous biography: choosing the figure, carrying it to the cave and depositing it required intention. We do not know if it asked for health, protection, fertility or thanked something received. The power of the piece lies precisely in that silence.
Thousands of bronze and terracotta ex-votos open the museum to people who rarely appear in great sculptures: pilgrims, horsemen, families, sick bodies and anonymous offerers. Each deposit transformed a request or thanks into lasting presence.
The sanctuary does not preserve the content of each promise. The figures allow studying gestures, clothing and circulation of metals, but do not automatically assign a divinity, an illness or the social sex of the one who paid the offering.
Evidence and interpretation
Documented fact: the votive character, the material and the sanctuary context are archaeologically established. Interpretation and caution: request, gratitude, healing, fertility or protection are possibilities that depend on each context.

Comparing sanctuaries without exchanging their pieces
A parallel allows observing how much a gesture changes among small bronzes. The MAN preserves ex-voto 29001, from the Collado de los Jardines: it represents a naked man, with a large belt brooch and palms turned outwards. It does not come from La Lobera and must not be identified with this recreation. Its height, 10.9 centimetres, shows the scale at which the founder made body and attributes legible. Comparison between sanctuaries illuminates a shared ritual language, but the provenance of each specimen must remain separate.
